ATLANTA, Ga. – Junior Katelin Swift scored her first goal of the season to give the University of North Florida an early lead over Georgia State in collegiate women's soccer action on Friday, but Kay Harbrueger scored five total points to lead the Lady Panthers over the Lady Ospreys, 3-1.
UNF (0-2-1) took a 1-0 lead only seven and a half minutes into the match when Swift netted an unassisted goal. GeorgiaState (4-0-0) wasted no time evening things, knotting the score a little more than two minutes later when Apryl Goodwin increased her season goal total to three. Harbrueger assisted on the goal.
With less than one minute remaining in the first half, Harbrueger sprinted toward the goal with the ball after a deep pass over the top from Candace Gonzales and found the back of the net for the fifth time this season, giving the Lady Panthers a 2-1 edge at the break. She repeated that performance early in the second half, this time taking a pass from Kara Vezza, to score her sixth goal of the season and put GeorgiaState up 3-1.
Lady Osprey senior goalkeeper Rachael Howard saw the Lady Panthers take 19 shots in the contest. Howard made nine saves, bringing her season total to 21.
Swift led the Lady Ospreys with three shots, all of which were on goal. UNF took 10 total shots with half of them on goal. Senior Elena Luzins and junior Kady Dearing each added two shots. Swift has 13 goals as a Lady Osprey.
UNF makes it home debut at Hodges Stadium Sunday at 2 p.m. against Florida International. The game is part of a doubleheader that pits the UNF men's soccer team in its home opener against Gardner-Webb at noon. The first 200 fans to enter Hodges Stadium will receive a free hot dog and drink, courtesy of Osprey supporter Tony Weight.
