Senior Chad Knight racks up career-high five hits

Box Score

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.
– The University of North Florida baseball team hammered out a season-high 20 hits on its way to a 16-7 victory over Presbyterian on Wednesday afternoon at Harmon Stadium. The win capped a two-game sweep of the Blue Hose.

Senior Chad Knight led the Ospreys by with a career-high five hits along with a double, two RBIs and four runs scored. Senior Travis Martin continued his assault on opposing pitchers this season, going 3-for-5 with a home run, four RBIs and two runs scored.

The game began with a bleak outlook for UNF (5-3) after Presbyterian put up four runs in the top of the second to go up 4-0. But the Ospreys answered back in the bottom of the third to cut the PC lead to 4-3 on a rally that was charged by senior Mike P. Smith's two-run double.

UNF added three more in the sixth to take its first lead of the game at 6-5. Sophomore T.J. Thompson chipped away at the PC lead when he scored on a wild throw from the Blue Hose's Jesse Harmon. Martin then launched a pitch from PC's Joe Hammond over the wall in right center for a two-run home run.

After the Blue Hose tied the score at six in the top of the seventh, the Ospreys swooped in for a monstrous eight run seventh that safely put the win in their hands. Knight had two RBIs in the inning, while sophomore Preston Hale, Martin and senior Andy Warren also drove in runs.

Sophomore Tucker Pryor upped his record to 2-0 when he tossed 3.0 innings of relief and allowed just one earned run on one hit while striking out four.

Hale finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored. Sophomore Andrew Hannon racked up a career-high three hits and scored once with an RBI.

UNF will return to action on Saturday in its first home Atlantic Sun Conference of the season when it takes on Lipscomb in a 1 p.m. doubleheader. The games will be shown live on ASUN.TV. Live stats will be available on UNFOspreys.com.
