Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida men's tennis team opened Atlantic Sun Conference play with a convincing 7-0 win over Lipscomb on Friday afternoon at the UNF Tennis Complex.

The only stumble of the day for the Ospreys (5-3, 1-0 A- Sun) came at No. 3 doubles, where the tandem of Javier Ferrin and Adrian Escarate fell 8-4 to Lipscomb's Jeff West and Joe McArdle. UNF took relatively easy wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to capture the doubles point, however, and give the Ospreys the early advantage.

From there, UNF took care of business in singles, winning the top five matches in straight sets. Eduardo Pereira won his ninth straight singles match by upending Lipscomb's David Haugsteter 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1, while Ferrin, Yuiti Lopes, Graham Edgar, Escarate and Alejandro Argumedo won at the bottom five spots, respectively. Argumedo defeated McArdle 6- 2, 4-6, 6-1 to cap the shutout victory.

"Today was a tough day for tennis because it was a little cold and windy," UNF head coach Igal Buberman said. "We came out a little slow in doubles but ended up getting the point at No. 1. Yuiti and Alejandro helped the team to build some momentum. This was our first conference match, and that always creates some pressure. We are glad it came our way and that we are on the right track. It was an overall solid performance."

Lipscomb fell to 0-7 overall and 0-1 in A-Sun play.

The Ospreys will not get long to rest, jumping back into A-Sun play on Saturday against Belmont at the UNF Tennis Complex. Match time is set for 11 a.m.
