Short homestand ends with Belmont

The University of North Florida men's basketball team will complete its first homestand of the season Saturday when it takes on three-time defending Atlantic Sun Conference champion Belmont.

The Ospreys (0-6, 0-1 A-Sun) are looking to get on the winning track after playing a tough road slate to begin the season before falling to Lipscomb 69-54 in the team's A-Sun opener. Senior Cortez Riley has been a bright spot for the Ospreys the last two outings, scoring a career-high 21 points against both Lipscomb and Charleston Southern. The point guard from Jacksonville did most of his damage at the free throw line against Lipscomb, hitting 10-of-12 shots from the charity stripe.

Belmont (2-3, 0-1 A-Sun) is also looking to even up its Atlantic Sun Conference record after falling to Jacksonville by a point on Thursday night. The Bruins held a 41-22 lead at the half in that game but watched Jacksonville storm back in the second half. Ben Smith hit a pair of free throws with 6.6 seconds left to complete the comeback effort for JU. Three Bruins finished the contest in double figures, led by Matthew Dotson's 14 points.

UNF is looking for its first win in school history against the Bruins, which hold a 5-0 record all-time in the series.

Who's Hot: Senior point guard Cortez Riley led the Ospreys with 16 points against Savannah State, 12 points against Rice and has scored a career-high 21 points in his last two outings against Charleston Southern and Lipscomb ... freshman Matt Sauey came off the bench to score 16 points, grab eight rebounds, block a shot and dish out an assist in the team's contest at CSU.

Gameday Notables: A UNF win would give the Ospreys their first-ever win against Belmont, even the team's A-Sun record at 1-1 and give the team its first win of the year … Riley came into this week ranked 12^th in the league in scoring and is now averaging better than 14 points a game after his 21-point outing against Lipscomb … freshmen Cameron Lovelace and Zack Riggins have each started the last two games for UNF and are among a group of three freshmen to make starts for UNF this year … Sauey is the third freshman with a start.
