Junior Agata Dawidowicz leads nation in aces
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – With just one match this weekend, the University of North Florida women's volleyball team will try to make it count when it takes on Atlantic Sun Conference foe Campbell in Buies Creek, N.C.
The Lady Ospreys (6-7, 4-3 A-Sun) are in the midst of a four-match losing streak but received powerful performances from Agata Dawidowicz, Danielle Lerch and Kaley Read on Tuesday in a 3-2 loss (17-25, 14-25, 25-21, 25-23) to Bethune-Cookman. The trio finished with double-digit kills, led by Lerch's season-high mark of 14. She also recorded an eye-popping .435 hitting percentage.
Dawidowicz also gives opponent something to fear with her powerful jump serve, which has allowed her to become the top server in the nation with 48 aces. She is currently on pace to shatter the UNF single-season record for aces (91), which was set in 1992 by Teri Taylor.
UNF holds a 2-1 series advantage over Campbell (4-11, 2-4), but the Camels got the best of the Lady Ospreys last season in Buies Creek with a 3-1 decision (20-30, 30-24, 30-28, 30-21). Two of Campbell's wins this season have come against the A-Sun.
The Camels have lost three of their last four but are coming off a 3-1 win over Kennesaw State last Saturday. Caitlyn Bendy leads Campbell with a .307 hitting percentage, while Emily Werner is averaging 2.27 kills per set to pace the Camels.
