NASHVILLE, Tenn. - After
slumbering through an opening game 5-2 loss, the
University of North Florida exploded for a 7-1 win to
split a conference doubleheader with Lipscomb on
Friday night at Draper Diamond.
Ashley Parenteau had five hits - three of which came
in game two - and drove in three runs in the
doubleheader to lead the Lady Ospreys (24-15, 2-2 A-
Sun) to a split with Lipscomb (17-16, 4-2 A-Sun),
which came into the weekend tied for first in the
Atlantic Sun Conference.
Devyn Findley (11-2) shut down the best hitting team
in the conference in the nightcap, allowing only one
run on three hits to go along with five strikeouts.
Lipscomb starter Kim Jacobson (5-8) didn't fair quite
as well, lasting only 1/3 of an inning in the loss.
The Lady Ospreys sent all nine hitters to the plate to
open game two, scoring six runs before Lipscomb
could get off the field. UNF took advantage of a
Lipscomb error to grab a 1-0 lead. Heather Hyde and
Ashley Parenteau each followed with RBI singles after
Elizabeth Howell reached on the error, before Findley
cleared the bases with her first home run as a Lady
Osprey, driving a ball to left-center that completed the
scoring in the inning.
Parenteau made it a 7-1 game in the top of the fifth
with an RBI single to left that scored Gwen Williams,
who led off the inning with a single.
Parenteau finished the game 4-for-4 at the plate, while
Williams had three hits, including a double, and
extended her hitting streak to nine games, tying
Howell for the longest hitting streak on the team this
season.
The Lady Ospreys pounded out 11 hits overall in the
game with all but two starters collecting a hit.
UNF lost the opening game 5-2 after Lipscomb
scored four runs in the first two innings of play, two of
which were unearned. Three of the Bisons' runs came
in the opening inning when Lipscomb sent seven
hitters to the plate. Kellie Sirus drove in two of those
runs with a base hit, while a Christen Campbell
sacrifice fly scored the other run.
Parenteau put the Lady Ospreys on the board in the
top of the fifth with a solo home run to left.
The Lady Ospreys had a chance to rally for more in the
sixth inning, loading the bases with only one out.
Parenteau chopped a single through short and third to
cut the Lipscomb lead in half, but that's all the
damage UNF would do.
Parenteau's home run was her 16th career homer at
UNF, putting her one home run shy of Traci Jester's
career home run mark. She also moved into ninth
place on UNF's all-time RBI list with three RBIs.
Parenteau, a junior, now has 77 RBIs in her career.
Lipscomb added another run in the sixth on a Katie
Brosky wild pitch. Brosky (8-8) suffered the loss, while
Campbell (11-6) earned the win, not walking a batter
and striking out seven.
UNF will complete its trip to Nashville with a
doubleheader at Belmont on Saturday beginning at
noon EST.
