BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Jennifer Bowen scored a career high 28 points, while fellow
sophomore Jennifer Guldager knocked down a pair of
free throws with six seconds to play in a 74-73 Lady
Osprey victory Thursday night at Campbell.
Bowen went toe-to-toe with Campbell's Octavia
Blackwell, who also had a career high, scoring 24
points.
The win was the third in a row for UNF (6-14, 5-5 A-
Sun) and gives the Lady Ospreys a season sweep
against Campbell (5-15, 3-7 A-Sun).
"We got outstanding play from Jennifer Bowen
tonight," UNF head coach Mary Tappmeyer
said. "Jennifer Guldager and Shennette Sheffield
played well defensively and contained Campbell's
post players. This is a tough place to play and I'm
glad we could get out of here with a win."
UNF held a 10-point advantage in the opening half
and led by as many as eight in the second half
before watching the Fighting Camels rally.
Denisia Andrews put the Lady Ospreys up 69-62 with
2:07 to play before Campbell cut the advantage to
one on a Letitia Dickson jumper. Bowen nailed 1-of-2
free throws on the other end before Dickson turned
the ball over trying to drive to the basket. The
ensuing result of the turnover was a scramble for the
ball that landed in Guldager's hands and eventually
put her at the line with six seconds to play.
Her free throws rendered Dickson's last second 3-
pointer meaningless.
Guldager finished the night with 12 points, as UNF
shot 52 percent from the field. Campbell was just as
hot, hitting 57 percent of its shots.
The Lady Ospreys led by as many as 10 points in the
opening half of play, as Bowen got off to a hot start
with 12 points in the opening frame. UNF led 30-20
before Campbell went on a 15-7 run to close the
half. Andrews followed Bowen with seven points, as
UNF shot 54 percent from the field to lead 37-35.
The Fighting Camels spread the wealth around with
its starters, scoring all 35 points in the half.
That set the stage for Bowen and Blackwell in the
second half. Bowen started the half with a basket on
the low post and finished the half with 16 points. She
was 6-of-11 from the field in the frame and hit 8-of-
12 free throws on the night. Bowen was the only
player of the two to score in the last two minutes of
play, collecting three points in that stretch.
"I felt good tonight," Bowen said. "I have been doing
some extra work after practice and it's paying off.
During pregame I was knocking a lot of shots down
and had a feeling it was either going to be a really
good night or a really bad night. Luckily it was a good
night."
Bowen finished tied with Shandrea Moore for a team
high five rebounds. Campbell outrebounded UNF 25-
23, while UNF turned the ball over 20 times,
compared to 25 Campbell turnovers.
Moore had a game high eight assists to go along with
her eight points.
UNF's road trip through North Carolina will continue
on Saturday when it heads across the state to
Boiling Springs to take on Gardner-Webb at 2 p.m.
