UNF defeats Flagler 1-0 after double overtime
Final Stats
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida women's soccer team ended its 2007 season with a hard fought victory over Flagler College on Wednesday night, winning the game 1-0 after two overtime periods.
UNF (7-11-2, 6-5 A-Sun) outshot Flagler 23-6, while also having the advantage on shots on goal 13-1. Junior goalkeeper Rachael Howard was barely tested in the contest making one save, while the Flagler keeper ended the game with 12.
The Lady Ospreys kept Flagler in their end on the field for the majority of the first half and were unlucky not to find the back of the net. Junior Elizabeth Gowan started things off for UNF mounting three shooting attacks within the first 10 minutes of the game. The Lady Ospreys had several more could have been goals in the final 35 minutes of the game, but were stifled by Flagler's goalkeeper Hope McArthur.
The second half saw Flagler come out with something to prove contesting UNF for every shot. Both teams went back and forth across the field but neither team was able to take advantage.
Flagler almost sealed the game just seconds into the first sudden death overtime period, after Annika Hogberg pinged the ball off the crossbar. Despite the close attempt both teams headed into the second overtime period still deadlocked at 0-0.
Senior Lisa Taylor put the game away for UNF with just five minutes remaining in the game, after collecting the ball from fellow senior Jessica Jowers. The goal was Taylor's second of the season.
