UNF, JU set to square off on Wednesday night at JU
Oct. 16, 2007
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida men's soccer team will open the 2007-08 edition of the SunTrust River City Rumble on Wednesday night when it travels across town to face rival Jacksonville University at the Ashley Sports Complex.
The Ospreys lost a pair of 1-0 matches over the weekend to Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast to fall from first to third place in the A-Sun standings. UNF can gain some ground against the Dolphins, however, who sit alone in first place after a 1-0 win over Stetson on Sunday night.
Wednesday's meeting is the first between the schools this season in a SunTrust River City Rumble event and gives the Ospreys an opportunity to take a step toward repeating as the Rumble champions in 2007- 08. As the current champion, UNF needs 10 wins in the 20 head-to-head competitions between the schools this year to retain the title and the SunTrust Old Wooden Barrel.

Who's Hot: The UNF defense has been among the most stingy in the Atlantic Sun Conference this season, posting a 1.25 goals-against average while allowing just a .082 shot percentage. In fact, the team's last seven matches have been decided by 1-0 scores, with the Ospreys winning three times during that stretch. UNF ranks second in the A-Sun in goals allowed (14), goals-against average and shutouts (3).
Notables: UNF and JU met previously this season in an exhibition matchup at Hodges Stadium, which JU won 4-2 ... the Dolphins have won three straight meetings, with UNF's last win coming in 2003 (3-0 on Aug. 29) ... JU leads the A-Sun in scoring (1.5 goals per game) and assists (1.58 per game) ... Presbyterian is in the process of transitioning from Division II to Division I this season and is playing a partial Big South Conference schedule as a result ... the Blue Hose have three common opponents with UNF this season - Mercer (both teams lost 1-0), Longwood (UNF lost 2-1, PC won 2-0) and Gardner- Webb (UNF won 1-0, PC won 2-1) ... Sunday's game will mark the 25-Year Celebration event for men's soccer ... the team will unveil its top-10 moments in program history as well as honor past greats at halftime ... free concessions will be available to all patrons as UNF celebrates its history as part of the UNF Athletics Department's ongoing 25-Year Celebration in 2007-08.
Quotable: UNF head coach Ray Bunch on this week's games: "Our guys played a great game on Friday against Stetson and a solid second half against Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday. We just need to be more consistent and take advantage of our chance, as we have been saying all year. Playing Jacksonville at their place will be a great challenge, and we will need to be at our best. Presbyterian is a good team, too, that has played some similar opponents. We only have two homes games left, so we need to be at our best."
