JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida men's soccer team dropped its home opener on Sunday afternoon, losing 3-1 to Longwood at the UNF Soccer Stadium.
The Ospreys (2-5-1) outshot the Lancers 13-12 but couldn't find the net when they needed to most in the second half. All four goals came in the final 45 minutes after the teams played a scoreless first half.
Longwood (2-6-1) broke out on top 1-0 after Chernor Diallo's goal at the 52:15 mark on a cross from Giovanni Peralta. The Lancers then added to that advantage 13 minutes later when Adam Kotchin delivered a strike from outside the box that skimmed past UNF goalie Fred Neely for a 2-0 Longwood lead.
UNF answered at the 85:28 mark on Shareef Rajkumar's putback, but Longwood iced the match away two minutes later on Sean Harney's goal from the middle.
Martin Schuuhte and Rajkumar each tallied three shots to lead the Ospreys. Harney had three shots for Longwood.
UNF returns to action on Saturday when the Ospreys play host to Jacksonville University as part of the SunTrust River City Rumble rivalry series. Match time is set for 5 p.m.
