
UNF splits final day

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The University of North Florida volleyball team capped its weekend at the IPFW Invitational with a split on Saturday afternoon, defeating Texas-Pan American 3-1 in its first match of the day before losing to host IPFW 3-0 in the nightcap.
Against UTPA, the Lady Ospreys (8-9) got solid performances from Maegan Weisert and Amy Stroder in the victory. Both players posted double- doubles, with Weisert tallying 17 kills and 18 digs and Stroder 17 kills with 11 digs. Allison O'Neill added 10 kills and six blocks for UNF, while Jenna Thomas had 52 assists.
As a team, the Lady Ospreys hit .223, hitting .342 in game one - a 30-22 victory - and .275 in game four, a match-clinching 30-28 win.
UTPA (3-13) hit .129 and committed 30 errors. The Broncs got 15 kills from Heather Bravo and 13 from Kellie Phillips.
In the nightcap, the Lady Ospreys ran into a hot-hitting IPFW squad that capped its weekend with an undefeated mark in four matches. The Mastadons (13-8) hit .293 for the match, but more importantly recorded just nine errors in posting impressive 30-17, 30-26, 30-18 victories.
Weisert, who was the only UNF player named to the all-tournament team, finished with 11 kills and 16 digs to lead the Ospreys.
Five IPFW players hit .290 or better, including tournament MVP Cynara Martins, who led all players with 15 kills. UNF hit .105 as a team and had 22 errors. The Lady Ospreys also committed 13 service errors to aid in their struggles.
UNF returns to action on Wednesday when it plays host to defending MEAC champion Florida A&M at UNF Arena. Match time is set for 7 p.m. The match will be the first for UNF at home since Sept. 2, ending a 10-match road swing.
