
UNF starts season in style

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida men's and women's cross country teams kicked their seasons off in grand style finishing the JU Duals in first place, while earning individual wins in both the men's and women's race.
"It was a good opener for us," UNF head coach Mark VanAlstyne said. "We didn't have any new injuries or heat problems."
The UNF men earned the best possible score of 15 points against three of the four competing teams; Stetson, Jacksonville University and Savannah State, while out scoring Florida A&M 25-34. Newcomer Nathan Holden led the Osprey men, finishing the 5k race in first place with a time of 16:42. Patrick Canfield was close behind taking third place (16:57), falling just short of second place by two seconds. The men's team concluded with seven top 15 finishes.
On the women's side, senior captain Sarah Coghlan finished in first place with a time of 11:09. Junior Amanda Davey finished in second place (11:11), just two seconds shy of Coghlan. Freshman Hillary Adams made her Osprey debut finishing in fourth place with a time of 11:57. Fifteen lady Ospreys finished in the top 25, helping the team earn the best possible score of 15 points against Florida A&M and Savannah State.
The Ospreys return to action Sept. 16 when they head to Gainesville, Fla. for the Gator Invitational.
