JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A 1:19 lighting delay couldn't prevent North Florida from moving into sole possession of third place in the Atlantic Sun Conference as the Ospreys topped Kennesaw State 9-3 on Friday night at Harmon Stadium
Jeremy Papelbon (3-4) tossed 6.2 innings and allowed just two earned runs to earn his first win over his last five starts. The southpaw scattered eight hits and recorded five strikeouts along the way, before turning things over to Jared Incinelli. The 6'-4'' right-hander worked the final 2.1 innings and notched four strikeouts to earn his third save of the season.
KSU starter Kyle Muschara (2-4) took the loss after pitching five innings, allowing eight hits and four earned runs.
Grant Rogers went 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs and two runs scored, and Brennan Grogan was 2-for-5 with two RBIs to lead the Ospreys' offense.
Kennesaw took a 1-0 lead in the second inning as Andy Hudson had an RBI single up the middle to score Matt Nelson. KSU could have added more with runners on second and third with just one out, but Papelbon induced Andrew Martin to groundout to third and struck out Martin Baker to end the threat.
UNF (24-19, 11-8 A-Sun) tied the game in the bottom of the third inning as Grogan had an RBI single through the left side to plate Rogers.
After the delay the Owls and Ospreys traded runs in the fifth inning as Jay Marrow had RBI single in the top half of the frame and Grogan tallied his second RBI of the game with a single to right field to score Matt Oxendine in the bottom of the inning.
In the sixth Travis Martin gave the Ospreys their first lead of the night with an RBI single through the right side and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Rogers to give UNF a 4-2 edge.
UNF added some insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth inning as Rogers belted a two-RBI double to the gap in left center to score Brian Wilson and Jonathan Hodach. One batter later Andy Warren followed with a two-RBI single up the middle to plate Rogers and Brandon Diaz. Oxendine lifted a sacrifice fly to center field that sent Warren home to complete the Ospreys' scoring.
Baker and Jacob Robbins had two hits each to lead the Owls.
The Ospreys and Owls will wrap up the series tomorrow afternoon with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
