JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - UNF exploded for five runs in the first inning and never looked back as it defeated Florida A&M 12-6 on Wednesday afternoon at Harmon Stadium. The Ospreys are now 8-8 at home this season and 4-0 against the Rattlers.
Travis Martin started on the mound, worked three innings, and struck out three batters. The sophomore also went 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs and four runs scored. Red shirt Freshman Antonio Franzese (2-0) tossed three innings of scoreless relief to earn his second win of the season. The right- hander allowed just three hits and recorded three strikeouts in the game.
Jon Dandridge went 3-for-5 with a run scored while Grant Rogers and Damon Olinto each had two hits for UNF.
Martin started the scoring with a two-RBI single to center field and two batters later Dandridge followed with an RBI single down the right field line and Olinto plated Dandridge with an RBI single up the middle. UNF added three runs in the second on a pair of bases-loaded walks and Martin picked up his third RBI of the game with a single up the middle.
UNF (23-19) added three runs on the sixth inning as James Belyea hit a towering solo home run over the wall in left field and two batters later Rogers belted a two-run home run off of the scoreboard in left center field.
The Rattlers broke through with five runs in the top of the seventh inning and Anthony Mazzeo hit his team-leading fifth home run of the season in the eighth inning to make the score 11-6. UNF added its final run in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single by Josh Maxwell.
The Ospreys will back on the diamond this weekend when they welcome Kennesaw State to Harmon Stadium for a critical Atlantic Sun Conference series. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. on Friday night with a doubleheader to follow on Saturday at 1 p.m.
