JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida pounded out 15 hits en route to a 8-2 victory over Florida A&M on Tuesday night at Harmon Stadium. Brennan Grogan was inserted into the leadoff spot in the batting order and went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.
Jacob Dixon (2-4) returned from the disabled list and made his first start since March 14. The senior tossed three innings, stuck out four batters, and allowed just two unearned runs to earn his second win of the season. Freshman John Frawley worked four innings in relief, recorded a career-high seven strikeouts and allowed just three hits.
Grant Rogers, Matt Oxendine, Brandon Diaz and Damon Olinto each added two hits for the Ospreys. UNF (22-19) roughed up FAMU starter, Austin Dill (0- 2), for 10 hits and six runs - five of which were earned as he took the loss.
The Rattlers took advantage of two UNF errors in the top of the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead. David James had an RBI single and Peter Guastella scored on a double-steal for FAMU. The Ospreys answered with three runs in the bottom half of the first inning and led the rest of the way. Jimmy Glanville sent Grogan home with a sacrifice fly to right field, and Jonathan Hodach and Diaz each had run producing hits in the inning.
UNF added an unearned run in the second as Brett Maloley came home when FAMU second baseman Corey McFadden could not hold on to a throw from catcher Elvin Millian. The Ospreys plated two runs in the fifth on a pair of bases-loaded walks to make the score 6-2. UNF added one run in the seventh and one more in the eighth inning to put the game out of reach for the Rattlers.
The Ospreys and Rattlers will conclude the two-game series tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m.
