Box Score
The University of North Florida was unable to avoid being swept for the first time this season as Austin Peay scored a 3-1 win over the Ospreys in the series finale at Harmon Stadium on Wednesday.
UNF (9-8) out hit the Govs 8-7 and received a strong performance on the mound from sophomore right-hander Travis Martin, but the squad was unable to overcome a pair of errors as UNF dropped its second straight game and its fourth at home.
Martin pitched 7.2 innings allowing two runs on four hits, while striking out three batters in his first start since helping lead the Ospreys to a Division II South Atlantic Regional championship by tossing seven shutout innings in the sixth game of the tournament in 2005.
Martin also contributed to the Ospreys cause at the plate against the Govs, going 1-for-3 with an RBI. Martin's single to center field in the sixth inning plated senior shortstop Matt Oxendine who had reached base on a single through the left side of the infield.
Junior James Belyea had the most productive day at the plate for UNF going 3-for-3 with three singles.
The Govs (8-3) pushed single runs across in the first, eighth and ninth innings to complete the sweep of the Ospreys.
The Ospreys will return to action on Friday when they open a three-game series with Atlantic Sun Conference rival Campbell. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Harmon Stadium.
That game will be carried live via the World Wide Web at www.UNFOspreys.com with Mike Ridaught calling the action.
