JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida dropped a 3-2 decision to Austin Peay on Tuesday night at Harmon Stadium.
The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for the Ospreys (9-7, 2-1 A-Sun).
The UNF offense was led by sophomore first baseman Jimmy Glanville's 3-for-4, RBI performance. Senior shortstop Matt Oxendine also collected a pair of singles in two trips to the plate. Junior outfielder Damon Olinto tallied the team's lone RBI.
UNF junior Josh Papelbon (2-1) suffered the loss for the Ospreys after pitching 2.2 innings of relief. Papelbon allowed a run on one hit and two walks, while striking out three batters.
John Raiford tossed 6.1 innings allowing one run on five hits and a walk in his first career start at UNF.
Freshman right-hander Derek Bell also made his UNF debut working one inning allowing one run on two hits.
The Govs (6-4) broke a scoreless tie in the top of the seventh inning on the strength of a pair of doubles Jason Shcroeder and Jacob Crass.
The Ospreys knotted the game at a run apiece in the bottom of the seventh after pinch hitter Matt Oxendine single through the right side to start the UNF rally. Freshman center fielder Brian Wilson followed with an infield single to move Oxendine into scoring position. Oxendine moved to third base and a sacrifice bunt by junior second baseman Andrew Chapman and came around to score on sacrifice fly by Olinto.
Austin Peay retook the lead in the top of the eighth inning. Left fielder Ryan Kane started the rally with a single, and then stole second to get into scoring position. A ground ball to the left side by first baseman Jake Lane moved Kane to third. A single by Shcroeder plated Kane to give the Govs a 2-1 lead.
The Ospreys tied the game at two runs apiece in the bottom of the ninth when Oxendine started things off with a single, moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Chris Caban and took third on a wild pitch. Oxendine scored the game-tying run on a single by Glanville.
The Govs jumped back ahead in the top of the tenth inning. A walk by Cody Youngblood, a sacrifice bunt by Brandon Munsey and a dropped fly ball in center field gave Austin Peay a 3-2 lead.
The Ospreys and the Govs will conclude their two-game set on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Harmon Stadium.
