JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Feb. 4, 2006) - Campbell University forward Adrienne Rieley hit a free throw with one second on the clock to break a tie with the University of North Florida women's basketball team and give the Fighting Camels a 65-64 win at UNF Arena on Saturday.
The victory gave Campbell (8-13, 7-6 A-Sun) a sweep in the season series with UNF (8-12, 6-6 A-Sun) and stopped the Lady Ospreys' four-game winning streak at home.
"We didn't do a very good job on the defensive end," UNF head coach Mary Tappmeyer said. "The offensive rebounds they had in the second half hurt us. We had opportunities inside in the second half and didn't convert."
UNF freshman Jennifer Bowen made 1-of-2 free throws with 37 seconds left to cut the Campbell advantage to 64-62, before the Camels committed a lane violation after being fouled on the other end of the court. UNF tied the score on its next possession with an Anna Haberlein layup, but couldn't prevent Reiley from going to the line on the other end for the game winner.
The Lady Ospreys held a lead until the 2:54 mark of the second half when Octavia Blackwell hit a baseline jumper to give the Fighting Camels a 62-61 advantage. Campbell led by as many as three before UNF was able to battle back and tie the game in the final minute of play.
UNF's Jackie Beik led all scorers with 17 points, getting back into double figures after she was held to seven points in her last outing against Gardner-Webb.
A trio of Camels finished in double figures, led by Rieley, who scored 15 points. Letitia Dickson followed her with 12 points, while Blackwell had 11.
Campbell's Amber Graham led all players with 10 rebounds, as the Camels edged the Lady Ospreys on the boards 38-37. Half of Campbell's rebounds came on the offensive end.
Haberlein led the Lady Ospreys with six rebounds and also contributed seven points.
UNF tied its season high with seven blocks. Andrea Dill (3) and Antoinette Reames (2) led the charge for UNF, as both continue to move up the single-season list for blocks at UNF. Reames is now fourth on that list with 24, while Dill is fifth with 23.
The Lady Ospreys led by as many as seven in the first half after Beik drained a jumper to give UNF a 17-10 advantage. Campbell scored the next six points
Neither team scored for a stretch of more than four minutes in the opening half. Campbell finally broke the drought with five-straight points to tie the game 23-23.
A length of the court drive by Haberlein that ended with a 3-pointer at the buzzer gave the Lady Ospreys a 35-31 lead at the half. UNF stretched that to eight in the second half, but couldn't hold on.
The loss was only the second at UNF Arena for the Lady Ospreys this season.
UNF is back on the road next week for its final extended road trip of the season. The Lady Ospreys travel to Kennesaw State on Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff, before heading to East Tennessee State on Saturday for a 1 p.m. game.
