BATON ROUGE, La. - The University of North Florida held No. 17 LSU scoreless for six innings before Matt Liuzza scored on a throwing error by UNF junior left fielder Brett Maloley to break the scoreless tie and help propel the Tigers to a 4-0 win and a 2-0 lead in the three-game series.
The Tigers pushed three more runs across in the eighth inning when Jarred Bogany and J.T. Wise opened the inning with back-to-back doubles. After Harris grounded out to Josh Papelbon, Matt Liuzza singled to left center to plate pinch runner Kade Keowen. A hits batsman and a base on balls plated the Tigers' final run of the game.
The LSU offense, which managed seven hits, was led by Bogany, Lauzza and Steven Waguespack, all of which collected three hits.
The Ospreys were led by a 2-for-3 performance from senior outfielder Brennan Grogan. UNF managed just four hits against the tandem of Derik Olvey and Edgar Ramirez. Travis Martin and Grant Rogers also collected hits for UNF.
Olvey, a Notre Dame transfer, earned the first win of his LSU career, while Brad Johnson suffered the loss for UNF. Johnson (0-1) tossed 6.0 innings allowing three hits and an unearned run for UNF.
