JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida pounded out 14 hits and three Ospreys pitchers limited Jacksonville University to just two hits as UNF pounded out an 8-0 win over the Dolphins at Alexander Brest Field on Wednesday night in the battle between city rivals.
UNF left fielder Brennan Grogan finished 4- for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, collecting a run- scoring hit in a decisive six-run second inning. UNF (24-9) won its second consecutive game against the Dolphins (14-15) and improved to 8-1 this season against Division I opponents.
Ryan Amason (4-1) pitched three innings to earn the win, allowing one hit while striking out three. Jeremy Papelbon and Jared Incinelli followed with three and two innings, respectively, to complete the shutout - UNF's fourth of the season.
The Ospreys put together six consecutive hits in the second inning to build their 6-0 lead. They added runs in the fifth and the eighth to round out the scoring. JU got just two runners into scoring position all night and both of the Dolphins' hits were singles.
Marion Knowles finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored for UNF, while Josh Howard was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
Brett Nagy (2-5) suffered the loss, allowing six runs and six hits in 1.1 innings.
The Ospreys return to action this weekend when they face Lander in a Peach Belt Conference series at home. They will play a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m., followed by a 1 p.m. game on Sunday. All three games will be aired on the World Wide Web at www.unfospreys.com.
