KENNESAW, Ga. (Feb. 26, 2005) - Shavonder Clarke scored 24 points, and Kennesaw State hit 12 of their 28 attempts from 3- point range, to fuel an 89-60 win over the University of North Florida in Peach Belt Conference women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at KSU's Spec Landrum Centre.
The Lady Owls (16-11, 8-8 PBC) raced out to a 20-0 lead in the first seven minutes and never looked back in earning a split in the season series with the Lady Ospreys (12-15, 6-10 PBC). The victory secured Kennesaw State of the PBC South Division No. 4 seed in next week's conference tournament and left UNF in the Peach Belt South No. 5 spot.
The finalized tournament pairing will be announced on Sunday.
"We just didn't play with a lot of emotion and energy out there," UNF head coach Mary Tappmeyer said. "We got behind 20-0 and didn't score for the first seven minutes of the game. We played a little better after that but never really brought the fight to them. They had their way with us all afternoon and we never responded."
Dominika Mieszkowska added 17 points for the Lady Owls, hitting all four 3-pointers she attempted. Kennesaw State shot 48 percent for the game but 53 percent in the decisive first half, when the Lady Owls built a 43-21 lead.
UNF shot 37 percent (19-of-51) but hit just 3-of-14 shots from 3-point range. The Lady Ospreys did win the rebounding battle, 38-36.
Jackie Beik scored 13 points to lead UNF, while senior Chelsea Headley added 10 points off the bench.
UNF and Kennesaw State will both play first- round games at the Peach Belt Tournament on Tuesday.
