JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida men's soccer team came away with a huge conference victory Saturday night, as it defeated Clayton State 1-0 at UNF Soccer Field. Barclay Powers ended the scoreless tie in the second overtime off of a free kick, giving the Ospreys the win.
"I thought both teams fought hard tonight, it could have gone either way. I am very pleased with how our team never gave up and kept it's composure", said head coach Ray Bunch.
Powers took advantage of a free kick that stemmed from a red card Clayton State received, knocking the shot passed CCSU's goalie Heath Padgett. UNF goalie Brad Jones recorded eight saves in the victory.
The win improves the Ospreys to 4-6-1 overall, and 2-2-1 in Peach Belt Conference play. The Lakers, who entered the match ranked 10th nationally, drop to 9-2-2 overall and 3-2-1 in conference play.
North Florida will now travel to take on Florida Tech on Oct. 19, returning home on Oct. 23 to host conference rival UNC Pembroke.
