JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A goal in the 84th minute by Anthony Rosso off a penalty kick, buried North Florida Wednesday as Saint Leo (2-1) was victorious 3-2. The Ospreys (1-3) also lost starting goal keeper Scott Ballon to a serious knee injury that will keep him out the remainder of the season.
The Lions jumped out first when Robert Pollock scored off of a corner kick in the 17th minute. On that play Ballon was injured and was replaced by Brad Jones. "After Scott left the game, you could tell our guys were down", said head coach Ray Bunch. "We all know how hard he rehabbed himself coming back from his previous knee injuries. It's a real shame."
After Saint Leo took a 2-0 lead on a Tommy Poston goal, the Ospreys charged back, getting goals from Victor Duncan and Martin Pettersson tying the game at 2-2. Bunch said, "I was proud of the way the guys came together in the second period, they played much better and were very poised." Unlike UNF earlier in the game, SLU was able to convert their penalty kick which proved to be the game winner.
The Ospreys look to get on track Sept. 22 when they host Warner Southern at 7:30 p.m.
