DELAND Fla. - University of North Florida freshman Elizabeth Gowan tallied her first career goal in the 70th minute of the Lady Ospreys match with in-state rival Stetson to power UNF to a 1-0 win Saturday night at Stetson Soccer Complex.
Gowan's goal lifted UNF (5-5-1, 3-2-0 A-Sun) to its second-straight win in Atlantic Sun Conference play. The Lady Ospreys managed to knock off Mercer 2-1 Thursday night in Macon, Ga.
Senior forward Ali Blochl and junior midfielder Courtney Forson each recorded an assist on the game-winning goal. Both players now have two assists on the season.
The Lady Ospreys outshot Stetson (4-10-0, 0-5-0 A-Sun) 11-4, including a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal. Gowan led the offensive charge for UNF with three shots and two shots on goal. Seniors Tessa Heer and Jess Smith were the only two other Lady Ospreys to tally more than one shot. Heer and Smith each recorded two shots and a shot on goal.
Freshman Rachael Howard earned the win for UNF to improve to 5-5-1. The St. Petersburg, Fla., native recorded two saves in the win.
The Lady Ospreys will return to action on Friday when they play host to conference-rival Lipscomb. That match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. ET at UNF Soccer Stadium.
