JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - University of North Florida senior midfielder Tessa Heer led a late offensive charge for UNF with a goal at the 81:31 mark of the Lady Ospreys' match with Atlantic Sun Conference rival Jacksonville, but the Dolphins two-goal lead proved to large to overcome as JU held on for the 2-1 win Wednesday night at Patton Park.
The match closed out the Lady Ospreys (7-7-2, 5-4-1 A-Sun) conference slate. UNF will conclude its inaugural season at the Division I level with two out of conference matches.
The Dolphins (7-8-3, 4-4-1 A-Sun) notched their first goal of the match at the 32:05 mark of play when freshman forward Kerri Zwikker lofted the ball over the Lady Ospreys' defense and into the net while being pulled down by UNF goalkeeper Rachael Howard.
Jacksonville freshman forward Michelle Lavine recorded the assist on the goal.
Neither team was able to add a goal in the final 12:45 of the first half and the teams entered the halftime intermission with Jacksonville leading 1-0.
The Dolphins struck first again to open the second half when freshman midfielder Angela Hulse redirected a cross from Lavine past Howard to tally the game-winning goal.
The Lady Ospreys outshot the Dolphins 7-5, with both squads tallying four shots on goal.
Junior goalkeeper Michelle Kmiotek tallied three saves to earn the win.
Howard tallied two saves for UNF in the loss.
The Lady Ospreys will return to action on Saturday when they play host to Presbyterian at UNF Soccer Stadium. The UNF seniors will be honored before the match begins. First kick is set for 3 p.m. ET.
