2015-16 Atlantic Sun Men's Basketball Awards/Honors (pdf)MACON, Ga. - For the first time in program history, North Florida collected the top men's basketball honor in the Atlantic Sun Conference as junior guard
Dallas Moore was named the Player of the Year by league coaches on Monday.
The St. Petersburg, Fla. native joined senior teammate
Beau Beech as North Florida's first two-time First Team All-Conference selections after receiving the same honors last season. Moore was an unanimous selection to A-Sun First Team this year.
"When you receive honors like Player of the Year and All-Conference it sends a loud message that your program and culture is one of serving and sharing as a family, said head coach
Matthew Driscoll. "With all the moving parts, it is difficult for any one person to stand out unless they are surround by selfless teammates. Dallas really matured and honed his skills during the off-season which allowed him to reap what he sowed by increasing all his percentages and averages. His most important improvement for the team came in him raising his assist to turnover ratio to over 3-to-1, allowing others to benefit from his abilities. Beau is one of the most consistent and passionate workers I've ever coached. His drive and determination to be the best while making sure the team comes first is second to none. We are extremely proud and excited for both Dallas and Beau."
North Florida added more superlative honors to their collection of postseason recognitions with
Demarcus Daniels becoming the A-Sun's second-ever back-to-back Defensive Player of the Year after averaging 7.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game. Daniels became the program's all-time career shot blocker during the season and also established a new single season program record with 69 blocks this year.
"Demarcus 'BaeBae' Daniels has been the most steady and engaged defender I've ever coached at any level," added Driscoll. "His ability to use his athleticism with incredible IQ make him remarkable in his shot blocking timing. At only 6'7", it is hard to recognize just how explosive of a rim protector he is from a bunch of different angles. This is a great reward and honor for Baebae and our program."After earning a second consectuive Atlantic Sun regular season crown and leading the Ospreys to a program record 21 regular season victories, UNF head coach
Matthew Driscoll and his staff collected the A-Sun Coaching Staff of the Year award for the second-straight season.
"Coaching Staff of the Year is a tremendous testimony to the commitment and dedication of our group," Driscoll stated. "It's s true reflection and recognition of hard work because it is voted on by our peers who recognize our work and culture that we have put in place over these last seven years. I was taught at an early age that in order to be successful you should surround yourself with people who have thick enough skin to express their opinion, while explaining why, and aren't too proud to laugh at each other when that time presents itself as well. I've been blessed with great staffs throughout my time at UNF and I'm thrilled and honored to receive this honor."
North Florida will begin the quest for a second straight Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament title on Tuesday in quarterfinal play against USC Upstate. The No.1-seed Ospreys and No. 8-seed Spartans will tip off at 7:30 p.m. in UNF Arena.
