Collegiate Baseball ReleaseAtlantic Sun ReleaseJACKSONVILLE, Fla. – North Florida catcher
Keith Skinner was recognized by
Collegiate Baseball as one of three Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week award winners while outfielder
Donnie Dewees collected his third Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week Award of the season.
Skinner put together one of the best single game performances in school history on Sunday when he drove in a school-record, nine runs. He was 4-for-4 with two home runs (including a grand slam) in the series finale against Jacksonville. He played in just two games this week and added a hit and an RBI in Friday night's loss.
Dewees picked up his third Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week honor after winning back-to-back awards in early March. He is the first North Florida, non-pitcher to win three weekly awards in one season.
The senior was 10-for-15 (.667) at the plate in four games with two home runs and 11 runs scored adding to his national lead (64). In Sunday's victory he scored five times which breaks the school's Division I era (2006-present) single-game record and ties the program mark. With the exception of doubles, Dewees leads the Atlantic Sun in every offensive category and also leads the nation in runs per game (1.48) and total bases (133).
The duo of Dewees and Skinner helped the Ospreys claim capture the series from Jacksonville in the annual River City Rumble this past weekend at Harmon Stadium. North Florida scored 33 runs in two victories to improve to 30-13 overall and currently sit in first place in the A-Sun standings with a record of 8-4.
The Ospreys will be back in action Tuesday to face UCF in Orlando at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday night.
