MACON, Ga. – For the first time since entering the Atlantic Sun in 2005, the Ospreys took home both weekly awards after a 2-0 win over Jacksonville on Saturday night. Sophomore Jay Bolt was named Defensive Player of the week while junior Helge Pietschmann was honored as the league's Player of the Week.
Pietschmann scored both of the Ospreys' two goals against the Dolphins, one in each half. His goal in the 40th minute was his first of his North Florida career. The junior transfer put the rivalry game away in the 75th minute on his second tally of the night. In just six games played this season he has recorded eight points. He is currently ranked second in the Atlantic Sun with four assists and seventh in the country with .067 assists per game.
Bolt was an integral part in the Ospreys all-around, dominant defensive performance on Saturday. Bolt and the North Florida back line did not surrender a single shot on goal in 90 minutes of play. It marked the Ospreys' second shutout in three games. Bolt was also a catalyst on the offensive side of the ball, recording his second assist of the season in the second half of Saturday's win. Bolt dispossessed a Dolphin defender on a tremendous hustle play and left a ball in perfect position for Pietschmann's second strike of the game.
The duo helped the Ospreys to their first conference win of the season and the first against cross-town rival Jacksonville since 2009. The Ospreys are now 4-4 on the season and 1-1 in league play. The will be back in action on Saturday night to take on USC Upstate in Spartanburg, S.C. at 7:00 p.m.
