BRASELTON, Ga. – The No.14-ranked University of North Florida golf team opened play at the 2012 Atlantic Sun Conference Golf with a round of one-under 287 to hold a one-shot lead on the field after 18 holes at the Chateau Elan Legends Course.
UNF junior Sean Dale shares the individual medalist lead following an opening round four-under 68 on Monday.
“We got off to a solid start but it definitely wasn't our best,” said UNF head coach Scott Schroeder. “We need to do a better job of finishing our round strong the next two days. Sean played a great round and we need to get another guy or two to do the same thing tomorrow.”
Joining Dale among the top 10 individuals were senior Kevin Aylwin and junior Kevin Phelan. Aylwin posted an even-par 72 and is tied for eighth while Phelan finished the round tied for 10th after a one-over 73. Freshman MJ Maguire shot a two-over 74 and is tied for 16th and fellow freshman Joey Petronio rounded out the UNF lineup with a 77 (T-26th).
The Ospreys were the only team to finish the day under-par as ETSU carded an even par 288 to hold second-place. Defending champion and tournament host, Kennesaw State is third at 291 followed by FGCU (292), USC Upstate (299), Mercer (303), Jacksonville (303), Stetson (307), Belmont (313), Lipscomb (315).
North Florida will be paired with ETSU and Kennesaw State in Tuesday's second round with tee times slated for 8:45-9:21 a.m. Live results are available online at Golfstat.com.
