JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The University of North Florida cross country teams will head to Tuscaloosa, Ala. on Saturday morning to compete in the 2011 NCAA Cross Country South Region Championships at the Harry Pritchett Cross Country Course on the campus of the University of Alabama.
The women's team enters the meet ranked ninth regionally in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches of America (USTFCCCA) weekly poll. Lipscomb, the newly-crowned Atlantic Sun champion, is the only team ranked ahead of UNF not from the SEC, ACC or Big East.
Of the 15 women's teams ranked in the USTFCCCA poll, only Jacksonville will not be competing in Saturday morning's regional meet. The Ospreys will be joined in the race by conference rivals Lipscomb, Belmont, Kennesaw State and Mercer, as well as individual runners from Florida Gulf Coast.
The men's team is currently ranked 14th in the region by the USTFCCCA, joining fellow A-Sun members Kennesaw State (10th), Belmont (11th) and Lipscomb (13th). All three will be in attendance, in addition to Mercer and a pair of individuals from FGCU.
The men's 10-kilometer race will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, followed by the women's 6-k race at 11:15 a.m.
