MACON, Ga. – Led by a trio of Top 20 individual finishers, the North Florida men's golf team opened the 2011 fall season with a third-place finish Sunday at the fifth-annual Brickyard Collegiate Championship.
The Ospreys carded a final round 290 en route to a 54-hole total 868. Junior Sean Dale finished tied for sixth while fellow junior Kevin Phelan and freshman Joey Petronio were tied for 14th.
Dale, who returned to the UNF lineup after redshirting last season, posted a tournament total of two-under 214 including a final round 70. It marked the 11th Top 10 finish of his career.
In his collegiate debut, Petronio fired a closing 73 to secure a three-round 218. Phelan shot a 75 Sunday for the matching tournament tally.
A pair of UNF seniors filled out the Ospreys' scorecard for the event with Kevin Aylwin finishing tied for 36th (222) and Joe Byun tied for 43rd (224).
Freshman MJ Maguire, playing as an individual, finished tied for 50th at 225 in his first career event.
"We had a solid finish to start the season," said UNF head coach Scott Schroeder. "Sean (Dale) had a really good day leading the team and a good finish for the week."
No. 21-ranked Georgia Tech led wire-to-wire in capturing the team title with a final score of 848.
