JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of North Florida head volleyball coach Kevin Campbell announces the addition of Anna Budinska and Kelsey Smith for the 2010 season.
Budinska is a 5-9 outside hitter from Prague, Czech Republic. She played club ball for SK Kometa Praha for nine years. Budinska plays well all the way around, front court and back court. She has extensive jumping abilities, and also is an outstanding defensive player. Her court awareness and decision making skills make her a force in all areas of the court.
In addition to indoor volleyball, Budinska has competed for many years in beach volleyball. She also competed in track and field for six years.
“Anna comes to us with a great depth of experience through her international club play,” Campbell said. “We look forward to bringing her into the team and are excited about the impact she can have for us immediately on the outside.”
Smith, a 5-5 defensive specialist from Oregon, Wis., has played libero for the past three seasons. She earned All-Conference Honorable Mention during her senior campaign while helping Oregon High School to the regional semifinals. Her sophomore and junior seasons the team advanced to the sectional semifinals.
In addition to volleyball, Smith also ran track, competing in the 100-meter hurdles, the triple jump and the long jump. In the classroom, Smith was an honor student and a member of the National Honors Society.
“Kelsey comes to us from a great Wisconsin high school volleyball program and from a great coach at Oregon High School,” said Campbell. “She is energetic and is an exciting defensive player. Kelsey will compete for playing time in that position as a freshman. We are looking forward to seeing what she brings to our team.”
