
Phelan Set to Tee Off at U.S. Open

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. - University of North Florida freshman golfer Kevin Phelan will tee off in the first round of the 110th U.S. Open at 2:31 p.m. on Thursday, June 17 at Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, Calif.
Phelan qualified for the U.S. Open after co-medaling at the McArthur Golf Club in Hobe Sound, Fla. on June 7. In the first round, Phelan made a triple bogey on his final hole to finish at one-over par 73. In Phelan's final round Phelan made his 30 yard flop shot on his final hole for an eagle. Phelan finished with a 138 (73-65). He tied with Nationwide Tour member, Gary Woodland.
This season for the Ospreys, Phelan recorded 18 sub-par rounds and finished second (66-72-70, 208) at the NCAA South Central Regional at The Traditions Golf Club in Bryan, Texas. He had eight top-10 finishes during the season and earned Atlantic Sun Golfer of the Month honors for March after posting four top-10's during the month.
The 2010 U.S. Open will mark Phelan's first major tournament. He is the first active UNF golfer to qualify for a major.
