GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of North Florida pole vaulter Christina King recorded a height of 3.60-meters, tying for 30th among the East Region's best at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships East Preliminary Round on Friday.
The top 48 men and women in the country competed in the second day of the preliminary round in Greensboro, N.C., divided between the East and West Regions, in hopes of qualifying in the top 12 of their event for the NCAA Championship final round at the University of Oregon in Eugene,Ore. on June 9-12.
For King to have qualified for the championships she would have had to beat her personal record and UNF's school record of 3.80m and put up a height of 3.90m for chance to get in. Seven competitors tied at the four meter mark, which was the top height of the day.
Yesterday senior Elise Trexler tallied a height of 1.69m in the high jump, finishing in 34th place.
Although King and Trexler ended the Ospreys' 2010 outdoor track and field season this weekend. The field performers were the first-ever UNF student-athletes to compete and represent North Florida at the NCAA Prelims.
