
Phelan Tied for Third, No. 22 UNF Sixth Following Second Round of NCAA Regional

BRYAN, Texas - The University of North Florida golf team is tied for sixth with a 2-over, 578 (280-298) following the second round of the 2010 NCAA South Central Men's Golf Regional at Texas A&M's Traditions Club Golf Course in Bryan, Texas.
Freshman Kevin Phelan is tied for third after shooting an even par, 72 in the second round. He has a 6-under, 138 in two rounds. Wichita State's Dustin Garza and Texas A&M's Ignacio Elvira lead the field with 8-under, 136's.
UNF shot a 10-over, 298 on the second day of competition and sits four strokes behind fifth place Pepperdine with 2-under, 574 (286-288). The Ospreys are 13 strokes behind tournament leader No. 2 Texas A&M and 12 strokes behind second place No. 10/13 Texas Tech. The Aggies have an 11-under, 564 while the Red Raiders have a 10-under, 566. No. 25/21 TCU and Wichita State are third and fourth, respectively.
“Today we played real poor,” said head coach Scott Schroeder. “The guys tried hard, but the execution was not there. The only good thing is that we still have a chance if we play well tomorrow. So we are going to rest up and see what we have tomorrow.”
Sophomore Sean Dale is tied for 20th with an even par, 144 (71-73) while senior J.C. Horne is tied for 31st with a 4-over, 148 (73-75) and sophomore Joe Byun is tied for 39th after shooting a 6-over, 78 in the second round. Byun he has a 5-over, 149 for the tournament. Senior Jordan Gibb rounds out the scoring for the Ospreys with a 9-over, 153 and is tied for 60th.
Auburn is tied with UNF while Tulsa and Baylor are tied for eight with 4-over, 580's. Rice is tenth with a 7-over, 583 and Georgia is 11th with a 9-over, 585. Georgetown, North Carolina and Jackson State round out the scoring in 12th (602), 13th (612) and 14th (673).
UNF is currently 22nd in both the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings and the Golfstat.com Index. Dale is 19th in the Golfstat Index and 25th in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.
The Ospreys tee off at 7:50 a.m. with Gibb at the first tee.
