
Ospreys Sign Langston to Women’s Basketball for 2010-11

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Head coach Mary Tappmeyer announces the signing of Octavia Langston to the University of North Florida women's basketball team for the 2010-11 season.
“We are excited to add Octavia to our 2010 class,” said Tappmeyer. “She is an outstanding student-athlete. She is a combo guard that can score as well as create scoring opportunities for her teammates. She possesses excellent vision and can become a lock-down defender. Octavia is a great addition to our freshmen class. We are really looking forward to seeing her compete in the A-Sun.”
Langston, a 5-8 guard from Mosley High School, recorded 1,580 points during her career while pulling down 967 rebounds. She also dished out 352 assists, recorded 335 steals and 217 blocked shots, setting school records in points scored, steals and blocked shots. Langston had a career high 46 points against Niceville.
The Panama City, Fla. native is a four time All-Bay County first team selection and was chosen to play on north team in the Florida Athletic Coaches Association North-South Girls Basketball All-Star Classic. Helped Mosley to an 82-35 record during her career and a district championship during the 2007-08 season. The team finished as district runner-up in 2006-07 and 2008-09. Langston also earned 17 News Herald Player of the Week awards.
In addition to basketball, Langston ran track where she finished eighth at the Florida state championship meet in the triple jump in 2009.
Off the court, Langston was drum major in the marching band and made the A-Honor Roll all four years. She was a member of the National Honor Society of High School Scholars and a member of the Civic Club, Student Government Association, Spanish Club and BFC.
