JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of North Florida head men's basketball coach Matthew Driscoll announces the signing of Jacksonville native, Charles McRoy for the 2010-2011 season.
“We are proud that Charles and his family have chosen to become members of our family,” said Driscoll. “Along with his high character, we are extremely excited about Charles' ability to play multiple positions and his athleticism allows him to rebound at both ends. Recruiting a local product sends a loud message that we are serious about recruiting the area and keeping our talented players at home for the fans to follow.”
McRoy, a 6-6 guard/forward, averaged 17.5 points per game, shooting 48-percent from the field during his senior season. He pulled down 10.2 rebounds and tallied 2.1 blocks, 2.4 steals and 4.6 assists per game. He led the Mustangs in all five categories this season. McRoy posted 15 double-doubles in his final season.
"I was able to attend some games and practices and it is such a family environment at UNF," said McRoy. "At the games and at practices, Coach Driscoll is so interactive with everyone who is there. Everyone on the team from the coaches to the players is so open with each other. They were really working together and gelling as a team. They really come together and create a family environment."
The Mandarin High School standout was named the Florida Athletic Coaches Association District 1 6A Player of the Year. He was also named to the All-Gateway Conference team. McRoy was named to the All-Star team at the Rock Holiday Classic in Orlando and earned MVP recognition. McRoy helped to lead the Mustangs to the 2010 Florida High School Boys Basketball State Tournament.
