JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of North Florida sophomore Aline Berkenbrock claimed her second career Atlantic Sun Women's Tennis Player of the Week award after leading the Ospreys to a 3-0 record in the past week, the conference office announced Wednesday.
“Aline has been playing some of her best tennis this season,” said head coach Rodrigo Puebla. “She had a great week and was very deserving of this award.”
Berkenbrock won three singles matches this week, including a win over Atlantic Sun preseason favorite Valentina Galbarini of Stetson. She also defeated the No. 1 singles players from Florida Gulf Coast and Ohio Valley Conference preseason favorite Eastern Kentucky.
In doubles she posted a 3-0 record with senior partner Raquel Castro. The duo teamed up to defeat Stetson's No. 37 ranked pair of Galbarini and Carolina de los Santos, 8-5. They also picked up wins over Florida Gulf Coast's and Eastern Kentucky's No. 1 pairs.
This is Berkenbrock's first honor of the season after capturing one as a freshman.
Berkenbrock and the rest of the Ospreys will be back in action on Friday, March 12, at 2 p.m. when they host A-Sun opponent Belmont. The team will play Lipscomb at home at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 13.
