Amanda Anderson, Patricia Lanoue each boasted a 4.0 GPA in the fall
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In addition to excelling in the swimming pool this season, the University of North Florida women's swimming and diving team stood out in the classroom.
The Ospreys posted a 3.24 team GPA in the fall and were named to the College Swimming Coaches Association of America Scholar All-America team. UNF was one of 112 teams to earn the distinction, ranking 60th among all Division I universities.
“I am really proud of our girls and the grades they got in the fall semester,” head coach Beth Harrell said. “Our sport can be tough because we swim in both the fall and spring semesters. There are a lot of morning workouts and afternoon workouts and that adds up. We have some kids in some pretty tough majors. Our team is in the top 60 in the nation among Division I, but we are third among women's sports at UNF and fourth overall in our own athletic department. I am proud of all the student-athletes and the efforts they put in to get the grades that they get. They do a good job. This is not an easy school to get A's and B's.”
Of the Ospreys' 25-woman roster, seventeen (17) student-athletes boasted a grade point average of 3.0 or better, including sophomore Amanda Anderson and junior Patricia Lanoue who each recorded a perfect 4.0 GPA.
North Florida returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 18 as they begin the 2010 Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Conference Meet. The meet will run through Saturday, Feb. 20, in Knoxville, Tenn.
