“This will be the first meet where we are coming in and hitting on all cylinders,” said head coach Mark VanAlstyne. “I just got done telling the girls that we can do very well if they stay together as a team. If they can finish within 25-30 seconds of each other we can have a solid showing out there. On the men's side Johnathan (Esteban) has been doing great, and being a sophomore now he can look to improve upon his top finish from last year. We are all very excited about this competition especially with the opportunity of running on a new course.”
The men's 8K collegiate run will open the early morning at 7:45 a.m. with the women following at 8:30 a.m. in the 5K. The Invite will be held at
In 2008, the Osprey men finished the FSU Invitational in sixth place out of 13 teams. Esteban finished the race in 26:02.34 which was good enough for a ninth place finish. Junior William Pearce (26.22.88) and sophomore Josh Brown (26.24.05) finished 11th and 12th respectively.
For the women, the Ospreys finished sixth out of the 11 teams in last year's FSU Invitational. UNF's top finisher at last year's Seminole Invite was senior Hillary Adams who took 9th with a time of 18:31.92 in the 5k run.
In UNF's last meet on Sept. 18 at the Florida Mountain Dew Invitational, the men tallied 125 points en route to a third place finish out of 18 teams while the women posted 156 points, finishing sixth out of a field of 23 teams.
Freshman Shelby Kittrell has emerged as a one of UNF's bright new runners. In the Mountain Dew meet she finished in 15th place and crossed the line at 18:40.34, and Esteban finished on top for the Ospreys in 14th with a time of 26.06.00.
