Nancy Miller, a North Florida Athletics Hall of Famer and former standout women's basketball player and coach for the Ospreys, moved into athletic administration in 2015 after a 20-year women’s basketball coaching career. Her transition took her from a position of Compliance Coordinator and Academic Specialist to Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance in February of 2016. In October of 2021, Miller was promoted to Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and Administration.
In her role, Miller is responsible for day-to-day NCAA and university compliance, financial aid, admissions, housing responsibilities, in addition to a role as the sport oversight for baseball and swimming. She also has oversight of the Student-Athlete Center for Excellence and Staff. She is actively involved with university-wide activities and served as the UNF Administration and Professional Association President from 2016-2020.
Miller has been part of North Florida Athletics for 33 years, having started her affiliation as a member of the inaugural women’s basketball team in 1992. She then transitioned into a coaching role, serving as an assistant for 19 seasons.
As a player, Miller found much success both in the classroom and on the hardwood, setting the bar for future student-athletes. Academically, she was a Rhodes Scholarship State Finalist and graduated Summa Cum Laude. She was one of 10 recipients of the 1996 NCAA Women’s Enhancement Postgraduate Scholarship to which she used to earn her master’s degree. Additionally, Miller was named UNF Student-Athlete of the Year in 1995.
Athletically, Miller reached new heights in the program’s early years. She was the first Osprey – men’s or women’s – to score 1,000 career points, accomplishing that feat as a junior. Miller went on to finish her career with 1,269 points and currently ranks third on the program’s all-time list. Many of her career scoring marks still rank in program record book. A two-time All-Sunshine State Conference selection, Miller was inducted into the UNF Athletics Hall of Fame in 2009.
Born in Seattle, Miller resides in Jacksonville, Fla. She enjoys spending time with her family, reading, working out and running. Miller actively volunteers her time in the greater Jacksonville community and is passionate about animal-assisted therapy work. She was instrumental in launching the UNF Campus Canines, UNF’s official animal-assisted therapy program, in the Fall of 2021 and continues to serve in a leadership role within the organization. With her first Golden Retriever, “Hooper”, she volunteered for almost six years at both the Mayo Clinic as a “Caring Canines” team at UNF has continued the volunteer work with her second generation golden, “Sperry”.
