Javier Matos joined the Osprey men's tennis coaching staff as an assistant coach in the fall of 2025.
He reunited with head coach John Collins after playing under him at Presbyterian College from 2021-24. He joins Max Benson, as one of two assistant coaches.
Matos comes to North Florida after spending the 2024-25 season as an assistant men’s tennis coach at East Tennessee State. He helped the Bucs secure a share of the 2025 SoCon Regular Season title and helped guide five different ETSU players to All-SoCon recognition.
Matos spent his collegiate career at Presbyterian College, where he played under Collins for four seasons from 2021-24. He received All-Big South honors all four years.
Matos was a standout on the court as he was the 23rd player in conference history to be a three-time All-Big South Doubles selection and the 15th player in league history to be a four-time All-Big South singles player. He helped Presbyterian capture both the Big South Regular Season and Tournament titles in 2023.Â
Matos reached an ITF Ranking of 297 in high school and a UTR Rating of 11.84. He won an ITF singles tournament in Venezuela and captured two ITF doubles tournament victories in Venezuela and The Dominican Republic.
Matos was also ranked No. 2 in Venezuela and won the 2020 Aguila Negra Open. He was even chosen to join the South American COSAT 12 and 16 national teams.
