In his role as Deputy AD, Lewis serves as second in command, overseeing all internal operations involving academics, sports performance, facilities and operations and event management. Going beyond his internal responsibilities, Lewis heads the initiative to bring in outside events.
In Fall 2021, Lewis was named the Chairman of the NCAA Track & Field Championship committee.
Lewis joined the Ospreys' staff after spending two years as the director of football operations for the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).
During his time at UAB, Lewis coordinated a wide range of functions primarily focused on getting the most out of the student-athletes and the athletics program. He coordinated all game day recruiting events and recruiting visits. He assisted the coaches with all recruiting efforts, traveling plans, and camps or clinics that UAB put on, while also serving as the compliance liaison for the staff.
Lewis collected a variety of experiences during his time at UAB, facilitating the Character Education Program for all freshman and sophomore football players as well as teaching a three hour undergraduate education course “The College Athlete.”
Before joining the Blazers staff in 2007, Lewis worked at the University of Georgia as an athletic academic advisor in 2003, assisting student-athletes academic efforts.
Lewis also has coaching experience on his resume, having served as the head football coach at Jefferson County (Fla.) High School from 2001-02 and as an assistant coach at the school for two years prior to taking over the helm.
A native of Monticello, Fla., Lewis was a member of Auburn University’s 1995 Outback Bowl squad before an injury cut short his playing career. He began his collegiate playing career at Jones (Miss.) Junior College in 1993-94. Lewis got his first taste in coaching in 1996 as a student assistant coach at his alma mater, Auburn.
Lewis earned his bachelor’s degree in health education from Auburn in 1997, before obtaining his master’s in higher education administration there in 1999.
