Hope McCarty joined the University of North Florida cross country and track & field programs as an assistant coach in August of 2014.
Prior to UNF, McCarty served as a volunteer assistant coach for the women's track and field program at Ohio University (2013-14). She also spent one season as the assistant cross country and track & field coach at Connecticut College (2012-13).
McCarty graduated from Ohio in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in journalism. As a Bobcat, McCarty was a four-year letterwinner in track and field competing in multiple events including heptathlon. She was named a team captain as a senior in 2011-12.
A member of the program record setting relay team in the 3200m, McCarty also claimed the Mid-American Conference championship in the Distance Medley Relay. Her personal bests include:Â 800m (2:10.18) and Javelin (40.25m). She qualified for Junior Nationals in the Heptathlon.
McCarty earned her master's degree in recreation and sports science from Ohio in 2014. In addition, she holds a USATF Level 1 certification.
A native of Hudson, Ohio, McCarty was a standout prep athlete at Walsh Jesuit. She married Justin Schneider, a former track and field athlete at Notre Dame, in June of 2015.
