Lightning/Thunderstorms
While utilizing The Bolles School’s facilities, the University of North Florida will follow the university’s lightning policy to ensure the health and safety of our student athletes. Lightning safety includes avoiding shelter under trees, avoiding open spaces, and suspending the use of land-line telephones.Â
Â
Using the WeatherSentry website/notification system, when lightning is alerted at or within 10 miles of the practice/competition location (Cassidy Aquatic Center), all activities are suspended for 30-minutes. All personnel are to shelter inside a fully enclosed safe structure in a substantial building. The athletic trainer will monitor the weather situation, and when lightning is no longer reported in the area following the 30-minute timer, practice/competition can resume. If there are additional lightning strikes within the 30-minute window, the clock resets and the 30-minute countdown restarts.
