Dawson, Francis Garay Collect ASUN Weekly Honors

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of North Florida Volleyball sophomore setter Sofia Dawson and senior middle blocker Yarimar Francis Garay earned Atlantic Sun Conference weekly honors on Monday.
For the second time in as many seasons, North Florida earned two ASUN weekly awards in the same week. It marked the second career ASUN Setter of the Week honor for Dawson and the first weekly award for Francis Garay, respectively.
North Florida notched wins against Western Carolina on Friday and at Appalachian State on Saturday at the Mountaineer Classic in Boone, N.C.
Dawson earned ASUN Setter of the Week following three-straight matches with 40 or more assists. Dawson has now registered 40 or more assists in nine matches as an Osprey. She's notched 40 or more assists in five of UNF's nine matches this season.
Dawson played in three matches and appeared in 12 sets last week.
The Atlanta, Ga., native posted 43 assists, eight digs, four kills, three blocks and .500 hitting against Western Carolina on Sept. 11. Dawson tallied 42 assists, seven digs and two blocks at App State on Sept. 12. She capped off her outing at the Mountaineer classic with another 42 assists against William & Mary on Sept. 13. For the week, Dawson averaged 10.58 assists per set.
Francis Garay earned ASUN Defensive Player of the Week following back-to-back matches with six total blocks. The senior middle blocker has now posted six blocks or more in 13 matches over the last two seasons.
Francis Garay played in three matches and appeared in 12 sets last week.
The Carolina, P.R., native recorded four blocks against Western Carolina on Sept. 11. Francis Garay notched six blocks and six kills on .357 hitting at App State on Sept. 12. She tallied six blocks and eight kills on .545 hitting against William & Mary on Sept. 13. For the week, Francis Garay posted 1.33 blocks per set.
North Florida continues its non-conference slate when it travels to the Eagle Invitational hosted by Georgia Southern in Statesboro, Ga., from Sept. 18-20. North Florida faces Fordham on Friday, Sept. 18 at 11 a.m. ET.
