Romano, Rios Secure ASUN Weekly Honors

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of North Florida Men's Soccer senior midfielder Mark Romano and junior defender Rafa Rios earned ASUN Conference weekly honors on Monday.
Romano was named ASUN Player of the Week and Rios was tabbed ASUN Defensive Player of the Week. North Florida has now earned multiple weekly conference honors in consecutive weeks after senior midfielder Anton Khelil was named ASUN Player of the Week and fifth year goalkeeper Luciano Natoli was tabbed ASUN Goalkeeper of the Week on Sept. 8.
North Florida shutout Coastal Carolina, 2-0, on Sept. 9 and defeated Florida Gulf Coast, 2-1, on Sept. 12. North Florida has now won four-straight matches to improve to 4-2-1 and 2-0-0 in ASUN Conference action.
Romano posted a goal, which was a game-winning goal, for two points, in addition to a shot, which was on goal, in North Florida's two wins last week. He has now had the game-winning goal in each ASUN Conference match this season, both of which have come after the 80th minute. Romano delivered the winning strike in the 85th minute at Florida Gulf Coast which marked his sixth-career goal, second goal and game winning goal this season, and second-career game winning goal.
Rios posted a goal for two points, in addition to three shots, all of which were on goal, and logged 172 minutes on the backline. Rios netted a goal, his first of the season, in the 33rd minute and played 82 minutes on the backline that only allowed one shot on goal to propel North Florida to a shutout win against Coastal Carolina. It was the second shutout of the season for North Florida. Rios played the full 90 minutes and posted two shots on goal in the win at Florida Gulf Coast. Rios has started every match this season for North Florida and played the full time in six matches.
North Florida travels to Clemson, S.C. to battle No. 17 Clemson on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. ET.
