JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – North Florida volleyball freshman opposite hitter Kendall Newbold earned Atlantic Sun Conference Freshman of the Week honors on Monday.
It marked the first time this season that an Osprey collected weekly honors, following a pair of impressive performances at West Georgia on Sept. 28 and at Queens on Sept. 28.
"Kendall is our go-to as a freshman," North Florida volleyball head coach Kristen Wright said. "She had a breakout weekend averaging three kills a set, over .350 attack proficiency and a career record in digs and aces. Kendall currently sits eighth overall in the league in proficiency. She's just getting started and we're very proud of her."
Newbold played in every set of both of North Florida's matches last week, posting double-digit kills in back-to-back matches while averaging a sensational .367 attack proficiency. In eight sets played, Newbold averaged three kills per set.
The Atlanta, Ga., native, Newbold, posted 10 kills on .421 hitting with three blocks at West Georgia. Just two days later, Newbold notched 14 kills on .333 hitting with nine digs, three blocks and one ace at Queens.
Newbold currently ranks fourth among freshmen in the ASUNÂ Conference in kills per set with 2.49.
North Florida returns to the court for the River City Rumble at Jacksonville on Thursday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. at Swisher Gymnasium.
