JACKSONVILLE - Both the North Florida men's and women's cross country programs were picked second overall out of 12 teams in the 2025 Atlantic Sun Preseason Coaches Poll, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon.
The Ospreys look to exceed expectations once again this upcoming season after being picked third (men) and fourth (women) in last year's preseason poll and earning team runner-ups at the 2024 ASUN Championship meet.
"We lost a lot of horsepower from last year, but we have men in place to step up to the next level," continued Pigg. "This team has the potential to be very good. I look forward to seeing them develop."
Seth Martinez and
Smilla Kolbe will be the leaders of each squad heading into the 2025 cross country season. Both Martinez and Kolbe earned First Team All-ASUN distinctions after they both placed in the top seven at last year's conference meet.
Six of the 10 Osprey runners at last season's ASUN Championship meet for both squads will return for the 2025 season, including five combined All-ASUN selections. The women have improved their team placement each of the past three seasons at the conference meet, while the men look to bring back a title for the first time since the fall 2021 season.
"The women's team had a good ASUN race last year and we are planning to be strong again," Director of Cross Country / Track and Field
Jeff Pigg stated. "Coach [Tyler] Stahl will be directing the women's team and he has big plans for them. I'm sure it will be a good year."
North Florida will debut its cross country season on home grounds hosting the Florida Intercollegiate Cross Country Invitational on Friday, Aug. 29, set for a 7 p.m., start time at Cecil Field in Jacksonville, Fla.
