JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – North Florida baseball opened its weekend series with Queens with a 7-0 shutout win on Friday at Harmon Stadium.
North Florida and Queens were tied 4-4 in the second game of a doubleheader when it was postponed due to inclement weather.
Junior right-hander Clay Hendry dealt with eight strikeouts and two hits in seven innings to add a quality start.
North Florida got on the board first in the second inning on a two-RBI single to center field off the bat of senior Drew Leinenbach. After sophomore Mitchell Collins led off the third with a single and stolen base to get in scoring position, senior Cade Bush extended the lead to 3-0 with a base hit. Senior Brady Browning made it 4-0 with a two-out infield single.
Collins drove in the next two runs on a fielder's choice sequence in which senior Connor Moore and Leinenbach beat plays at the plate to secure a 6-0 lead in the fourth.
Moore drove in the final run of the game in the sixth inning with a stand up double that brought the score to its final margin.
